TEQUILA!

Thank you all who sent me birthday wishes! Shame on you all those who forgot!

I unfortunately had to work on my birthday while all the other dancers got that day off -- guess that´s what I get for being the newbie...but it´s all good. I opened the kids club and sat there all morning just reading because no kids dropped in, which is good. My family called to wish me happy birthday so that was nice.

I went snorkelling in the ocean on my break. First time I even touched the ocean since I got here. The waters here are not extremely clear, but its not bad. The ocean is so warm, I enjoyed it even though the reef isn´t as nice there as in some other places...and I only saw two really small fish.

When i got home after work I was greeted by my two choreographers singing happy birthday . My fellow Canadian animator Eric got me a pizza for supper, and when when we got home I found that several people had passed though my appartment (since I live on ground floor with access to the pool the whole appartment uses my place as a drop-in) and they were all sitting out my back door by the pool drinking beer, and of course they made me start drinking.

Since i worked during the day I had to work at night too...work being taking hotel guest to the bar...yeah you can guess what happened...all the fellow animators swore they would get me totally hammered (which did not happen of course). People here love tequila, don´t know why...i hate tequila, but drank 2 anyway. The bars here are so different from bars in montreal...almost everyone dances, everywhere...the bar staff made everyone do this massive conga line with balloons and confetti while squirting drinks in our mouths...they make us to these ridiculous line dances...yeah that´s a real party!

After the bar...some animator got the crazy idea to walk home (even tho some of us were gettin a lil dizzy), but we did it and stopped for ice cream on the way, and 20 minutes later we were home.

its 9:30 in the am here and Im surprised i woke up at 8 with no problem...dont know what sleeping in means anymore!

Elements

Ok it cant get any crazier than this here -- try doing cartwheels and handstands at almost midnight.

Yeah, you read it. They called a rehearsal after last nights show for a new show called ELEMENTS, which is really cool. the stage is on the water at the beach and the dances are more artistic, pertaining to the elements Earth, fire , wind, water.

The choroegraphy is excellent, but as you can tell, our choreographer really likes to challenges us. There are two choreographers. they are both really nice, but they make us work hard. One of them really cracks me up when he teaches - its this gay guy and hes always like FEEL the music...come on TOUCH yourself...and...uno dos tres y quatro! But..ow...im so brused, like a peach as Laura said.

showtime now..more lata

Here and there

so yesterday was supposed to be my day off but they mad me work at COCO Beach cuz apparently there was supposed to be inspectors coming into the kids club and all the girls there were off (always a girl in kids club)

it wasnt so bad the kids club at coco is SO much better than playa....They have air conditioning, two TVS and CAble..so i was watching MTV and Gilmore girls all day...was cool (at playa there is NOTHING, im not exagerrating) one tv that does not have cable and right now doesnt work, games with missing pieces, no AC etc)

so i didnt mind staying there all day. After work i went home to meet Laura and Eric so we could go watch Star Wars 3 (saw it but had nothing better to do)

we go to the cinema, and it was not playing. so we didnt know that to do. SO in the next 5 mins like 6 30 pm, we got a bus and went to CANCUN just like that lol.

its really cheap 32 pesos (3.20 US)
we got off at huge mall there and found a cinema that played star wars.

we got back late but i had my day off today. i cleaned my apparment- scrubbed EVERYWHERE- i couldnt stand how dirty it was , the guys who lived there before me NEVER cleaned. now its all good as new. Then i went downtown in the afternoon.

got nothing to do tonight, so i´m going to go to the hotel and watch the show (its the pot pourri show which i screwed up last week, so i get to miss it yay!) then going to a club after...

Playing Tourist

There is nothing like a midnight motorbike ride.

Yeah I´m serious. One of the people I work with gave me ridehome a few days ago on a motorcycle. It´s so much fun, reminds me of when I used to visit Mauritius (everyone has a moto there).

Playa del Carmen is much more authentic than I imagined, very comparable to Mauritius. I live in a nice appatment away from all the tourist areas, so you can say its a real moving experience.

Downtown Playa we can find 5th avenue (why are all main roads 5th like NYC?). It´s an impressively modern area with shops, restaurants and bars along the beach...sort of a mixture of miami - virginia beach ambiance, if you know what I mean. Prices are all in US dollars there, there are lots of souvenir shops, artisans and mexican street performers...very touristy.

Cha-ra-des..

I am so glad I am immune to embarassment.

Yesterday, me and two other Canadian animators went shopping and we were looking for a laundry basket. But non of us knew the word in spanish....I tried basque, but that wasnt it...so I grab a garbage can and we were grabbing our clothes and pretending to throw it in the basket...finally the guy understood lol.

We also need air freshner...but we´re not doing motions for THAT.

Upside down

Two blogs in one day wow. Im all bruised from intense dance practice. They are gettin harder, with more lifts and drops...but they are really cool, you guys gotta come down to see me!

I´ve also got like one million itchy mosquito bites. For some reason mosquitos always seem to love me the most. Geez.

Today me and two other Canadian animators went to a Dominos pizza and tried to order in Spanish...actually i had to do the ordering since i speak the most. As you can imagine, it was hilarious...they understood me (wow) but we couldnt understand anything back...the lady kep saying something and took me awhile to figure out she was telling me how much it cost lol.

Cant blog long, off to party at the bar tonight (thats my job baby). Hasta la vista!

ES CALIENTE!

this is an email i sent a few days ago to friends...here it is for all of you

QUE ONDA CANADA?!!?? (whats up canada)

Yes, I got to mexico alright beleive it or not. First flight alone, piece of cake.

Its really hot here. if i say it´s hot, you know its hot. the past few days its been comfortable cuz of the breeze. when i first got there, as soon as i got off the plane, it was so humid like, help i cant breathe!!!!

sorry bout my punctuation im currently trying to understand a spanish computer and no one speaks english here. geez, i had to ask how to do the @ sign in spanish... I will figure it out when i have more time. i managed to buy a phone card in spanish (took like forever) and yesterday me and Laura, my soon to be roomate from calgary walked about ten blockes in the rain trying to look for a money exchange place.

the job is good, i spend most the time rehearsing dances. the day after i got here i spant all day rehearsing. the shows are really cool, we have a latin show called caribe caliente (salsa, mambo etc), a 70s show , a mixed one and a Disney one tonight. i spent today learning dances for The lion king (cool costumes were animals and im the leoppard!), hercules and beauty and the beast ( i get to jump around as chip the teacup).

i watched activities today and learned to do step and water aerobics. later ill learn to teach them.

the appartment is better than i thought, but what pisses me off is the shower doesnt work properly. right now im showering with a bucket. and you all know how i am with cold water...no boiling hot water like in montreal...the best i can get it to is room temperature..but its ok cuz i have never sweated so much in my life.

its a lot of long hours, but doesnt really feel like it...there is a show every night cept for fridays where we take all the guest to a bar called Senior Frogs...wildest bar ive ever been in, lol...if any of come here, youll love it...actually went to an outdoor beach club too on friday with some of the staff...alls nice...shoppers...youll love it here, everythings so cheap...hear me MOM lol...D
